One of the raggies - Castaway - asked me to post this here. Guess he's a bit nervous of us lot ;)

The gist is:
"If say you take a nice picture of my boat "Fairweather" pounding along at 7kts with a Cowes backdrop, you would check yr list and send me an Email with the pic as an attachment, or if you still use a proper camera check with me my address and sent it snailmail. (and if yr really tight bill me for the photo).

I know I would love to have a potential source of action pics of my boat, but so far have none.. and I'm sure that others feel likewise.

I,m just testing the water, and of course to be any good there would probably need to be database of at maybe 500 plus boats active, and a reasonable amount of enthusiasm/and a spirit of well wishing to make it work.."

Anyway, he's got a few of us that have said yes, so the group is up and running at
<A target="_blank" HREF=http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/solentswap/>http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/solentswap/</A>

Sign in, then add your details in the 'database' link on the left

I think it's a good idea, always nice to get shots of your boat at sea, rather than moored up, and I've taken many piccies and videos of other boats in action, but have very few of Iditarod.

But!

I tried to get pics of several boats on the way back from newtown creek but all passed on the south side of me. Moral: for a decent pic, point the camera a bit northish so its a nice bright pic wiv sun vaguely in south behind. So, not sure if there are any decent pic with cowes backdrop cept v early in the morning?

Ah see, I never go out in the boat without the camera. I got a half decent pic of Phaeton, although it wasn't going fast enough. Gave the file to B1 and he worked wonders with it. Made it look like a print on water colour paper. Well worth the cost cos it looks brilliant. It his game after all. So if you see me and TWo ladies out on the water give me a shout on the radio and I'll snap away. Maybe on the CI trip a bit later in the year.

Re: But!

Generally agree, but not always true. Have a really nice shot of me bobbing around in front of Needles on a sunny day, with shot taken from the north towards the sun. Looks great with sun glinting of the water

Yeah, usually got one with me...often my trusty digital video cam (Happy1 mode: 3ccd, broadcast quality /forums/images/icons/wink.gif]) which is great cos as well as having video, can take individual frames off on the computer as still shots, so you can get that 'one' magical shot out of 3 minutes worth that you can't hope to capture with a still camera. Not 35mm quality as a still, but pretty damn good.

I'll have to put this new group in contact with B1, excellent idea to get a good shot printed up professionally.

Will be able to loads of shots of each other on CI trip. Nothing much else to do for 3 hours!

You forget how rubbish i am at taking pictures. However, I can supply 2 hours of nice video of inside the boot of the car if that's any use to you, and sun glints off the seat belt a bit now and again?

Re: ah but

Ahh! That's the nice thing about digital videos, bung it on confuser, edit out hours of shots of shoes, inside of boat/car/building, generally waving around at nothing in particular..... and then save 30 seconds of 'good' footage. Then claim to be expert cameraman, trained by experts from BBC at vast expense.

Wave away comments about 'you never took that camera away from your face for a week, where's the rest of it' with gimlet eyed look, and comments about not understanding an artist at work
