While I love the Solent, and can see that many are investing in lovely wash rooms etc etc, and must say that the staff in most Marinas we visit are a good advert for their respective companies, I am fed up with

Dirty green slippery and bouncy finger pontoons, please find a solution!! I have had three bad falls due to green slippery pontoons in the last two years, it's lucky for them that I hate the blame / claim culture sweeping the UK

Constant power trip out issues, it's not my boat, it's every boat we have owned

Refusal to put long term contracted berth holders in big berths if they are vacant

Hoses that are just dumped in a bundle, or leak or are on a broken hose reel

Rubbish in the water in quiet corners of the marinas is often terrible

We have been at mercury for years, I was there today and they were busy washing all the pontoons down with a scrubbing machine to ensure they are not green and slippy. We have been on a 12m berth for years, until now we have had a 8m boat... Hoses never ever left in bundles..and never had our power tripped out.

I don't doubt you, sounds like Mercury is a good example, its not in line at all with my experience of five years boating based in two different Marinas

Not disagreeing with you at all Paul as we are new to the Solent and don't know the marinas there , but we took our berth at Lymington Haven mid last November and have to say everything there so far has been just excellent with no instances of anything you mention in your post. Well we did trip the power out a few times one weekend but that totally was our boat, even then the staff were really helpful and came up to reset it every time we blew it.

I think they are pretty busy berth wise but have worked very hard to find us a suitable berth. General standards and level of help/enthusiasm from all the team there has been superb.

you cant genralizse you need to name when and where its not fair on marinas speak up see if peeps agree .are you a visitor or do you berth at a bad one we all want to know

So on this thread you want marina owners to fix what their users break/disgard (except the pontoons) yet there is a nother threadhorrified that a marina dare put the charges up.

Vote with your feet if you arent happy

White lighter

Correct , I really want a clean pontoon, I want a reliable power source, yes a hose that does not leak and piss water everywhere, and want to see refuse collected and pulled from the water, yes you are correct about all of that, the other post you refer to has nothing to do with me, how is any of this unreasonable, I have voted with my feet before and will do so again, there are spaces / berths in most Marinas

We had eight/nine years at Chichester Marina (Premier) and four/five years at Lymington (Berthon) until I became boatless (temporarily?) at the end of 2014 and I'm glad to say that I don't recognise these issues. I would have done as suggested and voted with my feet if I had.

I always felt that I was paying a premium for the convenience of being able to turn up, park the car close to the boat, get on the boat comfortably, enjoy a range of ancillary facilities when tied up and have peace of mind when I wasn't there that the boat would be safe.

With regards to electrics tripping out, I'm surprised Marina's don't insist on shore power leads being PAT tested before they allow you to plug in, dodgy leads are probably the cause of many trip outs.

Not always..... The trip fuse on our marine pops out if we put the kettle on the same time as the battery charger!!

what we have to remember most supplies are only 16amp and depending weather its type b,c,ord d type they will trip all dependant on inrush currents ,electric ones not water

Was this before they picked up the two boats that fell over!!!

Can I start by saying we are very happy with Haslar re: the problems mentioned. The other week I was just thinking that the pontoons were looking a bit green - on Sunday I noticed the power cleaners had been out !

But not all places are as good. Wobbly finger pontoons in a few places - ocean village was a nightmare last time we were there. Splinters in your lines, Swanwick is an absolute bugger for it.

Henry :)

The splinters on F pontoon at Swanwick were terrible, where we now are on E pontoon doesn't seem to have the same issue. I guess it varies finger pontoon to finger pontoon.

Should also say, pontoons were pressure washed not long ago and the hoses are always rolled away...
