Solent departure Point

Yarmouth Bours are OK but you have to pay. If the winds are Westerly just anchor outside and if Easterly anchor in Alum Bay (Which is even better as it will save you 45 minutes.

We often use the buoys outside Yarmouth.
A very easy place to leave from, and shops in town for the things you have forgotten.
We like them for the last night of a cruise too, water taxi to the pubs and a lazy last day back to Pompey.
Anchoring a bit N of Hurst Castle can be Ok, but it's a breezy spot sometimes and if the wind is not stable, maybe it's not quite what you want either just before or just after a long leg shorthanded to/from Devon or France.
I would think getting in or out of the Keyhaven River in the dark would be 'not for the unfamiliar'.
Whereas 3 minutes motoring from the buoys off Yarmouth sees you in the tide making progress before the kettle has boiled.
If SWMBO wants dinner in Dartmouth that makes a difference.

I have been in and out of Keyhaven a few times with my last boat 24' x 2'6" draft. I got in and out of the entrance just at all states of tide. I will not be bothering with new boat 2m draft, all very doable but as others have said a bit small...

Anchor outside Keyhaven but inside Hurst but not to near the castle. If you fancy having a look in take a dinghy IMHO much more fun than stressing about 2m draft in there.
