Summer 2005 was meant to be the year it all came together i.e. new boat with the right gear and a large annual holiday entitlement carried over from last year. I could devote up to 4 weeks on an extended holiday cruise down to say La Rochelle.

Now I am wondering if I should delay and shorten the cruise in order not to miss the international fleet review in late June. Is this once a generation fleet review so special that it is worth delaying the big cruise till 2006?

Plan A

Use the late Spring bank holiday to get the boat from Portsmouth down to St Malo followed by a couple of long week-ends in June in France. Then in the final week of June start the full 3.5 week cruise and head home as the French begin to holiday en-mass.

Plan B

Stay in Gosport and use 1 week's holiday to view the festivities and head off early July for the usual C.I. 2 week juant that might possibly not get further than Weymouth is the 1st week's weather is bad.

I think Plan A remains my favourite.

Plan 'A' any day for me!

IMHO these big do's are over-hyped anyway. I see you're based in the Solent, but have you ever been out during one? The place is chaos. I'll be making sure I'm somewhere else, a few days beforehand.

Agree with you Vic. Like the start of the RTW races. Definitely to be avoided. Next year we get QHM's "keep left" scheme around the dockyard as well.

Indeed. I get the impression that the participants, press and part-time stewards enjoy such events the most with their privileged pass cards and free tickets to the organiser's party. By contrast the general populous are herded around like cattle, fed on overpriced priced junk food and condemned to observe from a distance.
