Sole boards....what to paint to bottom with?

Evening all,

My cabin sole boards need a varnish and refurb but i'm loathe to varnish both the top and bottom of them, especially as they have been painted underneath and it would be an absolute sod to remove.

What would you recommend to paint the underside with?
