you don't, you've no reason even to care, and he probably has becuase he doesn't seem the sharpest tool in the box :-)
 
You lot amaze me, you all run around in circles. Quite simply you sold a boat through a broker. The buyer saw the boat and decided to hand over his money to you. "It was sold as seen". Thats it.... CAVEAT EMPTOR = buyer beware.
The buyer then goes away with your boat (HIS BOAT NOW) and then finds a problem and tries to come back on you... Tough luck matey "sold as seen"!!
 
I put "here" in my sentenceas I was referring just to this issue. There is no EU law on this issue (warranty in a private sale) that is applicable in the UK.

Your other points were more general, ie not confined to this 6month warranty thing. Yup treaties are contracts between countries and override domestic law, so are in effect EU law. But there is no treaty binding the UK covering this point. And directives are as you say "instructions" to each country to enact a local law to give effect to the principles in the directive, but there is no directive on this point binding on the UK

Oh, and I've just sold my boat to a Frenchman. Hope it works well for the next 6 months :-)

Woudn't happen to be Volvo D4 or D6 would it ?

Injector failure ? ... potentially blown out the cooling system frost plugs when injector sleeve (which is cooled by the fresh water system) fractures ... Comes in various severities ... but all based on same injector failure.

If so .. he needs to get to Volvo PDQ ....
 
It never ceases to amaze me that you can have a boat which never ever gives you you any serious problems during your ownership(perhaps because you fuss and care about its health) yet the moment it gets into new ownership all sorts of grief happens and the previous owner/fettler is held always responsible.
When I buy a boat from anybody you will get F/A for it but I buy it with all its faults full stop.My problem now,end of story.
Wonder if the new owner has borrowed more than he can afford last summer and now with the economic downturn sees a quick way of raising easy money or cutting his losses.
