I have two 80W solar panels connected through a Marlec HRDi regulator. In the evening I switched on my mains charger, which was set to charge at 14.4 volts. I noticed that the HRDi controller was indicating a current on the solar panels even though the controller on/off switch was off. When the charger went to float mode at 13.3v the controller current indicated 0 amps.

Am I right to assume that my solar panels must be missing a diode to prevent reverse current flow?

It's unlikely that the mains charger power can get back to the panels....if that is what you are asking.

There was a posting about using solar panels with the HRDi regulator a few days ago and blocking diodes were mentioned, but that was in the context of using the regulator with panels and a wind generator. If you do a search you should be able to find it.

Its in the installation instructions for the HRDI which can be found on line.
