I want to connect a 4W. solar panel to trickle charge my battery (approx 85 AH.). Would somebody suggest a suitable blocking diode as I cannot remember the code numbers - poss. IN414/

I was told 10W will keep what charge you already have in your battery but won't have enough oomph to top it up fully. Do you mean 4 or 40W? Perhaps it depends on the type of panel, you get what you pay for I suppose!

A 4 watt panel is rather small but with luck should be enough to keep good, charged battery topped up while not in use but dont expect it to do much in the way of recahrging one that is partly discahrged

If it has been supplied for that purpose it may already have a built in diode

Other wise a 1N4001 silicon diode ( rated 1 amp and a PIV of 50 volts) will be adequate.

Cat no QL73Q from your local Maplin Store for 42 pence.

Thanks all.
Cheers Vic. Yes, it is just to try and stop the battery losing voltage when not in use. Thanks for the information, brilliant.
