Sodding Hit and run merchants!

Similar thing happened to us a couple of years ago in Langstone Harbour, pretty sure it was a fishing boat but couldn’t prove it. Damage to the bowsprit, rigging for the bowsprit ripped out on the starboard side, damage to the Pulpit and damage to the topsides. Hope you can make the b*stards pay for it.

Honest Guys

Hi Chris,

I was on my mooring (A9) just along from you the day it happened (Saturday 24th Oct lunch time-ish). It was a training/charter Bavaria 36/38 called Concorde.

As I was working below I didn't see the incident but did see them go alongside you with fenders but no obvious mooring lines. Apparantly they were checking for damage and reported it to Alan the ferry driver.

As Alan was taking me back ashore I went off on one at them as I assumed they were practising mooring alongside your boat.
Apparently they were practising picking up a mooring; lost control in the blustery wind and were blown down onto your boat.
I pointed out that they were doing this on private moorings and had no right to jeopardise peoples boats while they were not around and that it could lead to incidents such as this.

I noticed you weren't on the mooring on Saturday and assumed you were off being fixed.

Hope that helps a bit,

Piddy

Guys - I have just been phoned by Chris at Gosport Boatyard. Apparently the offending Speedbird yacht (who would fly with them!!!!) made a full and immediate report to the Gosport BY ferry - so good for them. Unfortunately no-one told me!!!!

Anyway - quotes have been done - tatalling £1000 and repairs will take place as soon as I have confirmation of of Speedbirds acceptance of liability.

One thing though - throughout this summer we have been assailed every weekend by charter/training boats using the mooring next to us as practice. We have nearly been hit on a number of occaisions, Including Sunsail 53 who had 3 goes at Raming us before Foxtrot Oscar was mentioned!

Anyway, All is well that ends well.

And Thanks you Speedbird Sailing club for your honesty - its is a rare event these days!
