SODC

Yes was dodging Ambulances and Fire engines as I left for work! Looks like someone had a serious grudge with SODC.
Going to be interesting to see how this effect things, but I doubt my Council Tax bill will be late :(

They got someone for it already but the Council Offices are ruined. He also torched the local Undertaker and a Cottage nearby.

From the pictures I've seen that must have been a pretty comprehensive torching - you wouldn't expect a fire started at a single point to cause so much destruction.

5 Fires ! I thought it was only 3?

3 Major Blazes: but "An eyewitness to the Roke Marsh blaze which engulfed three buildings has described the fire as "huge" + SODC + the funeral parlour - so 5

The fire was believed to be part of a triple arson attack, motivated by anger over a long running planning dispute. This saw a nearby thatched cottage in Roke Marsh engulfed by flames minutes earlier while an 80-year-old woman was inside, along with a farm building next door, and a funeral parlour next to the council offices ignited after a gas canister was thrown into the doorway. so 4

so somewhere between 3 and 5

"It would be interesting to know what their Building Control thinks of their fire protection." In what way? Looks as though the fire protection worked - ie the Building Regs allows unlimited floor area/no compartmentation for offices, and the reports showed virtually all damage to the first floor and little to the ground. If you mean means of escape (which is a different issue in Part B of the Building Regs) then adequate escape routes have to be provided. The local SODC building control officer for this area (Henley) is extremely well thought of by our local builders, and they have just moved back to their local office (the one in the news today) after a period of joint working with another council, the Vale of White Horse, so expect they will relocate back there for a while.

So.. they have arrested Andrew Main. In a way I'm not surprised. SODC Planning and Ray Main have been at war for at least 30 years that I've known the family. I am shocked however that arson would be an outcome. All suspects are innocent of course until they are proven guilty.

a couple of coats of intumescent paint would have helped. that fire on the first floor was intense, especially with all those windows gone allowing wind / oxygen in to feed / fan the flames
