What does the Government plan to do about the cost of bl**dy Volvo spares???

Just got quoted over £230 for belts, filters and impellers - and that was from Keypart, who're cheap!!!

So does anyone have a reliable source of non Volvo items? Keypart said there was very little non-Volvo stuff about.

Just a thought, but are your Volvo's used for any non-marine applications (truck maybe??). I'm sure I remember seeing somewhere that Volvo charge 4-5 times as much for an identical part with a "marine" part number.

AFAIK, the KAMD4x's are dedicated marine lumps, but the filters, belts etc aren't. I know I could take the belts to a motor factor and get equivalents, but I have no spares at all right now...

Hmm. We had the same. A set of belts, filters, some oil and coolant, the usual stuff, and not including fuel filters, cost £248 for D12s. If you saw the box containing them you would think £50 is about right. Bought them in Jersey so a bit cheaper. The D12 is a truck engine so we might use these Volvo items for an annual service and then buy some cheaper alternative for our spares kit.

I hear the cardboard boxes were a bit creased, so I think you should demand a £100 credit note from the supplier! You probly have about 8 spare impellers now, should hold a tamd63p fixing day!

Have you managed to track down someone that charges reasonable prices for tamd63p spares then? Or is the impellor collection a keepsake for when you become a raggie? /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Very glad to have got rid of v***o's with my last boat. Now on Perkins and very happy with it.
Had an interesting chat with the engineer chappy woring on my engines this week. He described the v***o training days as a sales meeting...'you must change this and you must change that' apparantly

Take the belts to yer local bearing type engineering shop. They will measure them and give you similar. I paid about £3 each last time I wanted some for a machine. Take filters or at least the numbers to a car and garage shop or look up web site for Fram or Fleet Guard. I think one of them has a part no equilivant thingy. Just fill in the boxes. Not used it for a bit, have a fish about.

That's the problem, I don't have any spares to take, so short of pulling the belts off one engine, I'm a bit stuffed. And I don't want to lose a weekend to traipsing round motor factors knowing the boat's out of commission, as I have the belts with me.

Take your filters oil and air to truck spares man (yellow pages) show him, he can match them to Fleetguard equiv. Oil request a match for VDS 3 or something that exceeds that rating ie Castrol Tech 15w 40. for cooling fluid I would use Volvo.
I also use only volvo oil filter personal choice tho . everything else belts etc can be got thro truck man.

I have read them and I'm not sending out "SPAM" I have a service to offer, if other users wish to utilise this they may, I have not crammed a load of unwanted information down anyones throat.
