It seems the social group facility on this forum was a good idea for about a fortnight - or is it just those I joined? A flurry of posts and new members in the initial stages and then nothing? Anyone a member of a still active social group?

Anyone a member of a still active social group?
I have been trying to keep the circumnavigators group going but with just 10 members there simply isn't enough traffic to keep people's interest. There are thousands of forums on the web that don't get a post from one month to the next.

Shameless plug :p

The Pirate Squadron!.........now 50 members :) (& always looking for more :D)

"Active" is of course a relative word, the YBW social group simply provides a vehicle for membership (and a Piratey addition to your personal profile page)...........the real action takes place on the high seas ;) And all that is of course subject to the Pirate Code of Secrecy - hence the low posts within the Social Group :p

Aaaaaarrgghh! Me Hearties! (etc etc )

An invite from the Pirate Squadron ? A day after watching Jack Sparrow and his octopus friend on the box?
No thanks - think I will toddle along to Snowleopard and become a "circumnavigator " - much more noble aspiration !

West Coast Sailing / Clyde.

West Coast Sailing / Clyde.:D
It was my intention to create a self maintaining localized social group for the purpose of bringing together those from around and who visit the Clyde……this on the basis of a common interest.
Personally I think it needs just a little input from all interested parties to make an ongoing success for us all.
SO!.....jump in….get involved…..make an effort…..create an interest….post sensible suggestions…..attend events and musters and lets make 2010 a FANTASTIC season. :D:D:D

There could be an element of re-inventing the wheel here....

There seems to be a strong Clyde membership on Bluemomemt forums - good site with lots of useful information

This is a bit odd. I am a member of a (Yahoo)forum devoted to the building of a particular boat. It has long pauses between questions about a specific point, a flurry of posts, then silence. Still usefull.

More Social / Sailing Groups.

To a lesser degree….aren’t there elements of everything in most things?

Yes….Bluemoment is a very good, a well produced and updated site which should be used by us all. But after having a quick look all I could see was lots of good general information and charter advertisements…..but no localized memberships, group events / socials or musters…..(please show me the link).

I honestly think that if more local (ish) sailing / social groups were established, and allowing for BIG overlaps, we would create a much better community resulting in more productive and enjoyable seasons.

What say you all?

Or do I have to assume 10-down, keep 500’, rig for silent routine?.....:-) :D

NEW SOCIAL GROUP...............THE MED CRUISERS!!

Any one on a yacht in the MED or intending to be in the MED can join in FREE... FREEEEEE
Lots of info and rally's etc. Advice when needed. Roll up, Roll up.

Didn't understand the last part of your post but can empathise with what you are trying to achieve.

Bluemoment do have a section on west highland week if that is your thing Perhaps some of the other Bluemoment forumites could post more informatively on this point?

Think forums and subset of forums are very dependent on a critical mass of forumites to keep the pot boiling and introduce new topics - which is probably why even the best of social groups falter due to small membership (as with some other forums where I have posted).

We got around this by accident.
Having tried to get rallies together through our local yacht club forum without success, a few of us took off together on a cruse in company, then started posting pics and short blogs of what we were doing. With follow on cruises, our active membership has increased due to others seeing what we were doing and wanting to join in. Worked for us.
