Investigating the reason for reluctance of my engine to start when cold, I checked the voltage readings at the glow plugs. Battery volts about 13, at the plugs 10.7!
Most of the relevant cabling is Ø2.5 tinned or silver plated but the feeds are a bit long. Additionally, for control from the helm, the commands are buffered by relays.
By changing routes, I now have readings of 11.2 volts and the starting has improved. (As an aside, I monitor the heater current - fsd = four heaters and 1/4 fsd 1 heater.- very useful).
