At the start of June I booked the next two weeks off, tides good for the channel Islands, just before the school rush, summer in full swing, should have been great.

Weather has been pants this week, blowing from the west for most of it, looks set to blow from west for the weekend and into monday...Should make for a nice swell

So now what?

Look for cheep flights? or see what Tuesday brings? ;)

get in your car and drive to places you would normally sail to... stay in pubs.

Pub guide we use

did it a couple of years ago when weather was awful and the marina boring

Looking at Wetterkarte all next week looks grim so if I were you I'd either try and reschedule your holiday, or look for cheap flights....

Doesn't look that bad? At least no rain! Just bung a couple of reefs in, maybe more rolls in the genny and enjoy!

We were hoping to head to Cherbourg, then off the channel islands on to France, back to the channel islands and back home.

There are just the two of us, and working on the idea that if the auto pilot packs up we'll be hand steering across in a F6 with wind over tide for 6 hours from 0915 - 1514

If it was 5-6 hours it wouldn't be a problem, we'd take off the genoa and put the no. 2 on, the boat would take it with ease, but 12-14 hours with just the two of us doesn't sound like a holiday :D

Well it looks like our planning was from the same page - and the long term for the second week is rain rain rain - it aint going to be a lot of fun !!!

I know what you mean - our ST6000 occasionally throws a hissy fit "endstop" message usually at the most awkward moment when tacking in a F6 with just the two of us. Fortunately the boat puts up with it even when we screw up but it really helps to be able to relax with the A/H on once on a steady course under those conditions!

One more not going to Cherbourg next week.

It looks like a lot of us were planning to head south this weekend. I have been watching the GRIB's for the last few days and although Sunday would be OK to get across, it looks as if this would be followed by three or four days locked in there by the weather.

Looking beyond next week it would appear that there are highs building, but the quickly developing lows keep springing up.

Oh well, back to chart watching!

We're planning a trip from Poole to Weymouth on Sat so I think we'll be fine even with 4 novices along with myself and SWMBO!

I'm going to spend the week developing a deck paint that dries perfectly in the rain!!! Should make me a millionaire?

Depends on where you're starting from, but as a guess it will be up wind, and I wouldn't like to be pokin' any part of me of the boat past the Lizard after what's been thrown at it this week!

See you in the Solent then!!! :D

More likely to see me in the pub :D

holidays

should have booked first two weeks in july, it was brill, two weeks in iom, weather cracking the flags, and the best part of it, no kids for the first time, as they are now all at work... just didn't have enough hours in the day, just don't know how we manage for all those years with the kids, cause we were busy doing nothing, and still wondered were all the day went...

snooks you need to put a little more effort into your preplanning, starting with the met office synoptic charts...????

You can go off people you know :D

sorry for the remark, we know just how fickle the weather can be, it has been the first decent summer cruise we have had for 3 years, we have decided to try and take them a little earlier in the season, and try to book within couple of weeks, so we can try and get the forecast right..but as we know the uk weather can be a b*gger to forecast at times..
