How about the brits? Top Olympic sailing nation, Ellen, island race and all that... and among the brits the best sailors are invariably the ones who'll take time out to offer advice, lend a hand etc.

I vote for the bloke who can keep his boat out of the water for longest whilst blagging rides with everyone else.
Obviously the money saved on moorings, anti foul etc, is expended on sinking footwear, and the latest flash Oilies, which makes one look good, so probably best. Add latest shades for optimum effect.
The best sailor though? Well the one who can coax a dinghy across a breathless lake, or the Roaring Southern Ocean madmen? Thames Bargemen or World Speed Record holders. Who knows.
I also vote for the one with the best stocked bar open the longest, and always appreciate the Gorilla up the sharp end in any weather rectifying my erroneous sail choices.

Perhaps the best sailor is one who realises that he knows nothing and still has everything to learn, if only the sea spares him...

ah well, if he hadn't told you about thye engine it wd have been something else. Vey direct people, it doen't take them very long to explain very clearly the details of exctly why thier boat is excellent and fabulous, and why most if not all other boats including yours are not really as good and hence were rejected....

Whenever I spoke to a Dutch yacht owner one of the first things he mentioned was how powerfull his engine was.

I think you've got the Dutch and the Germans confused /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

After all Deutsch and Dutch are two similar words, but that's all it is /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Now why does that sound familiar Jim? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mind you it does have its problems with skippers arguing over who's turn it is to have you as crew! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

IT realy depends on how much time u spend on yachts, 10 yrs ago i use to work in a marine yard lifting boats, etc i could climb a 10mtr mast with out a bowson chair, jump from boat to boat like a water rat. but now when i board a boat i feel out of place for a little time until i get my sea legs back.
