We’ve been to Gruinard Bay, but by road not sea. Is that your boat moored off Second Coast I can see on google maps?

Yup, that's the one. Pity I can't zoom right in and see all my beautiful paintwork!
House is the one SW of my mooring (sea side of the road).

Why not start at "The Top" and work your way down - otherwise you'll spend years and years enjoying the way up, so long in fact that'll I'll be pushing up daises by the time you get here ;)

I'm sure Scruff didn't mean anything personal or crude; I know what he means, we get several a year that either take risks themselves and/or get wiped out by foreign tourists on the wrong side (so easy to do in a foreign country - like that American lady in the news.
Sadly, far too many the treat the North Coast 500 as a race track.

Horrible experience for all concerned.

A friendly wee marina. Quite a narrow entrance which is "interesting" when there is a strong Westerly wind. Has yard / workshop and lift out facilities. Port Bannatyne itself does not have very much to offer. Rothesay is nearby with plenty of shops/services and ferry to/from Wemyss Bay with onward train connections. Not that difficult to get to compared with Tarbert/Portavadie/Craobh/Kilmelford/Ardfern etc.

Yes, thought so. Pity it’s not in the street view shots :) I thought that must be your house... also there is a plot for sale right opposite, hmmm ��

SWMBO and I did a mega walking/driving tour round Scotland in our youth, right up to the top through the middle and then wiggling back the slow way down the west coast, like a pinball. Assynt was amazing, quite extraordinary. Always wanted to sail up there but spent all me working life darn sarf.

Thanks, very helpful. It looks small but quite nicely formed and easy to get to. Rothesay’s only a couple of miles away so plenty of facilities close to hand. Will check it out too.
 
Warning Notice to all Scots: it happens to be our wedding anniversary next week and SWMBO has most of the week off, so I’ve persuaded her the best way to celebrate is with a spontaneous road trip to Argyll & Bute.

The fact that the random direction of travel has most of the ‘marina’s of interest’ as waypoints is, of course, purely coincidental.

Rough itinerary is long leg up on Tuesday to just west of Glasgow, stay the night, have anniversary dinner, swear undying love etc, etc, then Wed catch ferry from Wemyss (conveniently passing Kip on the way) to Rothesay, amble up to the top (past Port Bannatyne) and ferry back to mainland, pootle to Portavadie, ferry to Tarbert and then a slow touristy meander in the expected deluge up to Craobh Haven alongside the Crinan. Stay in cottage Wed and Thu, poke around a bit weather permitting, hopefully down to Ardfern as well. Then in a fit of complete self indulgence we spend a couple of nights on Gigha, because I’ve never been there either. Sunday will be a slog as we’ll have to get all the way home in one day, but so be it.

Forecast is rain every day. May as well get used to it.
 
Thats a great road trip, you will pass through some stunning scenery.

From Craobh to Ardfern is a pleasant 40 minute walk, assuming it's not raining and you want stretch your legs after all that driving.

Plot across the road sold two years ago. Now there is a "house" on it. Lovely people who own it (from Hampshire) but I told them when they first arrived that I didn't appreciate a "shed" which looks directly into my bedroom and bathroom grrr.
We have "smoked the pipe of peace" since.
I'm thinking of selling my mooring(s).
