Caught Saddam,.... and how SAD he looked on the t.v.
What happens now, do our boys come home to spend Christmas with their families?
Will the people of Iraq finally accept the fact that they are now a country without the threat of this tyrant coming back?

Well lets just pretend for a minute.

Say Margret Thatcher was in power here. We did'nt like her much.

Neither did the Arabs. So they came over and bombed us and killed a few thousand of our conscripted kids.

Then they wanted rid of our thousands of years old type government and introduce an Arab type one that they said would be better for us.

Now. What would you do??.........../forums/images/icons/frown.gif

"Thousand year old government"????????????? - I assume there was a certain degree of poetic licence in that statement /forums/images/icons/smile.gif especially as the relatively old system of government that they had in Iraq (which was actually set up by the british for them) was thrown out by Saddam himself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on Haydn (and I know you said lets pretend) but Mrs Thatcher was not into genocide and other appaling crimes that Sadam has been acused of.

Whatever your political views there can be absolutely no comparison between a democratically elected PM and a barbaric and cruel dictator.

Fantastic news that they have got him and he must rank as one of the most murderous dictators of our time.

Well done to the troops that dug him out

Nick

Tiebreaker for $25m ?

My own claim is winging it's way there together with the tiebreaker "I would like the $25m becos if I don't win, I will be very sad, dammit. "

On a par with Robert Mugabe then. But no sign of Princess Tone preaching the need for regime change in Zimbabwe. Hyprocritical Git!

Ahh. But. I was pretending. I have been to Baghdad and Basera. Few years ogo I;ll admit. But also Syria Jordan Kuwait and Saudia. To name but a few. 'lll ask you again. Even if we had an evil twerp in power. Would you want the Arabs taking over. Just answer the question. It aint rocket science!

Saddam is a wrong \'un - but....

He actually did manage to:

1) control the numerous feuding tribes that went to make up Iraq - that are now feuding again!

2) Keep the Al Qaeda out of his country - which is now crawling with them.

Right at the very start of all this two questions existed.

1) Are there really weapons of mass distruction?

2) What will our strategy be after the war is won?

If we had thought of all these things first, I believe the out-turn would have been far more contolled and clean, whereas now we have the mother of all messes to clean up. In our country as much as theirs!

Thought it very politically incorrect for the US General to give the parting shot after the interviews of, 'God Bless America'. Not the most sensitive thing to say. He may as well have added, 'and F*ck Iraq'.

Maybe your forgetting that nice little friendly fellow Pol Pot had a kill total of maybe 2 million people. I think he probably made even Saddam seem to be a nice guy. Also Idi Amin had a kill total of around 300,000 but I suppose they don't count as the Americans didn't want their oil.

Sweeping political statements on the world stage

OK OK I only said that he was in the "top ten" nasty people although as a Christmas jolly we could create a list of the most evil dictators of all time and their best known attrocites .....just to cheer things up around here.

Re: Think they should be treated equally ....

After all we spent years and years training and arming both countries in order to keep our arms industry in work.
Not our fault either, that the French are better at flogging deadly stuff to enable your local friendly dictator to suppress his local population..

Re: Sweeping political statements on the world stage

According to Oz radio, as SH was pulled from his hiding place he turned to the soldier and said 'I am Saddam Hussein, I am the President of Iraq and I am prepared to negotiate' Now thats what I call optimism!! The soldier is reported to have replied 'Yeah, George Bush sends his regards too'. Style!
G'day folks
