So BWM Orcale just went down by 1 minute to the Spanish. Fantastic sailing by the hosts and great to see Oracle's 100% record broken which gives ETNZ fresh hopes by really tightening up the top of the leaderboard. Of course the benefit of being top challenger at the end of this round is that you can choose your opponent in the semis.

Now waiting for THE race of this round, ETNZ vs Oracle in a wee while, just hope the balck boat doesn't do anything stupid in the pre-start again!

What was the protest about, do you know? Another one of tricky Dickie's tricks?

I can't stand that being! I think that he is a disgrace to sailing.

No idea, no doubt we'll hear more about that red flag later. Hope it doesn't change result for Spanish.

Did you just see that dial-up between ETNZ and Oracle and the start? heart-in-mouth stuff!

No, not yet. I'm continually moving between computer and television. I'll watch the replays tonight. Last night I was up till 0400 (local) just to see the incident that Areva had with the buoy. I do believe that the marker was shifted sideways by the wake of the umpires' boat. Even Shosholoza could hardly believe that they had won.

Re: Bugger!

Round Robin 2 should be interesting. I wouldn't like to be in Dean Barker's shoes at this time! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

There was some great sailing, these last two days. I felt rather sorry for Mascalzone Latino; they have a great boat and have made terrific progress, but they do not have the amount of training that bigger budgets can support.

I tell you, IF Oracle are the eventual challengers, then Alinghi will surely have most of the civilized sailing world behind them. Anyone but that insult to mankind!

What a difference, when compared to the real gentlemen of the sport! What a bighead! I wouldn't sail with him if they paid me. (Not that anyone would, of course. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif). I have met several of the other skippers when they were over here for various editions of the Rolex Middlesea Race - Paul Cayard, Francesco de Angelis, Vasco Vascotto, among many others - and there is absolutely no comparison. Real gentlemen.

Re: Bugger!

I agrre IF it BMW Orafice get to challenge Alinghi I hope and prety that the Swiss HAVE indeed cracked some kind of swinging keel technology within the rules and give the yanks a good shoe-ing. Altho of course I should remember that the US boat only has 3 Americans on it. The rest a kiwis etc!

Getting caught in coffin corner at the start was a blunder by ETNZ! But, then totally outmaneuvering BMWO and leaving the start with a 50m advantage was brilliant!

Pity they couldn't keep it up.

ETNZ's pre-starts are patchy and the weakest part of their gameplan. But getting caught like that was appalling and they escaped more by luck than judgement, it could have so easily gone the other way.

Gotta say the clinical efficiency of Oracle makes them look like a winning team at this stage.
