So Targa 48 it is now!

IMO it makes more sense. If Fairline could pull a three cabin version they have a winner with this 48. So far it is not.

I think the current 44 Targa is currently one of there best models of the moment. It is one of my preferred and is also easy on the wallet to run.

Nice three cabin version available as well. Third is a bunk option.
I think they have a winner here. Cockpit looks also very spacious on plan. This boat can also live well with the 50 Targa GT considering it more med layout (no patio door), and IPS.

I like!

The latest Princess magazine has some brief details of the new V48, not sure who got their retaliation in first!

Kevin, I would say Fairline retaliated to Princess as the Targe 48 up until now was going to be the Targa 45. A 48 seems strange in their range, given the current 38 to 50ft model gap, how much different to a T50 will it be?

Guess we wont know until we see the full specs of both and more importantly the prices?

Is there going to be a Targa 42 based on the Sq42 platform?

I'd agree that a T48 and a T50 in the range looks oddly tight. I wonder if there'll be an early revision of the T50 to take it up to a T52/3/4 or something like that, especially now that the T58 has become the T62.

The new V48 looks like it is equivalent to the T48GT, because of the glazed doors. Like PYB says though, I don't think the Princess has the third cabin option.

Cheers

I'd expect T50 would become T52 or 3 with a swim platform Jimmy, and that if T42 (on s42 platform) is on the drawing board then it is further down the queue than T48 and other new models that are def in the pipeline. This is just me guessing: I have zero inside knowledge on these points. There is a visible trend in the market though for up-down platforms and Med boaters love them, so Fairline seem to be going through the range replacing the tender launch gizmo with platforms

One of the tricky things with retro-designing a boat by adding a platform is fitting a longer passserelle in. I had a custom longer passerelle on Match and will on Match 2 and it isn't an easy mod even at the new build stage. I haven't seen the passerelle on the Sq60 and T62 but it needs to be long, and thus fatter too

Yep, agreed, I think you can now get them on all current Princess models. I think they are brilliant. I'd love one on the T40, if only H+B did one small enough.

But on the v39 the choice is platform or passerelle, not both, which doesn't work in t'Med. Unless Princess have overcome this limitation?

Not that I'm aware of, I think it was a c of g issue (it was this constraint that I was thinking about the other day when I got the V39 and V42 tangled up).

Of course, if someone came up with a hilo platform that went properly up like that clever opacmare gizmo that nick_h posted about, then perhaps you wouldn't need the passerelle at all.

T48 and others around this size look Fab from Fairline , looks like they are trying really hard to stimulate the market in this sector here it's hotly contested
Good luck to them if the £££ are right they will sell loads

Princess/ Sunseeker have bigger fish to fry @ 40-55 M +

All 3 fighting over 40 footer intro modal , not much in it , tight sector .

I think it has been more difficult for Fairline to add hi-lo platforms to existing models, because they'd always extended the hull under the fixed platform, so if they then bolt a hi-lo on the back you end up with acres of bathing platform. You can see this to some extent on the new Sq 60, but if they tried the same on smaller boats, the relative size of the platform would be out of proportion to the hull length. I guess it's not just as easy as blanking off the aft end of the hull mould on existing models, because that affects the trim, handling, ride etc., so they can probably only fit them when they design new hulls. This is all guess work of course, I don't know any of it as fact, but maybe this is why they went with the tender launch instead?

With regard to the new P52, I think this general layout is now the best for mid-sized flybridges. If you're going to do away with the internal stair, as every builder seems to have, then it makes even more sense to stick the galley at the back, so not only can you serve drinks to guests in the cockpit, but it's also a shorter journey to move food and drinks to the fly. It's a shame Princess didn't do this on the P60 and P56, as I think it makes loads of sense.

Isn't IPS the big news for Fairline here? Maybe I'm wrong but isn't this the first time Fairline have offered IPS? Anyone know what they mean by a 'specific hull' for IPS?

No, the T44 was originally offered with IPS, and then reengineered for sterndrives.

I think the V48 announcement from Princess is more significant in this regard, afaik they have never offered IPS on a production boat (although I think they built one V45 with IPS as a test mule).

Doesn't look like there is a three cabin version. Though nowhere near 48ft it is a smaller boat than the V52, and the V52 only squeezes in a 3rd cabin.

Comparison:
LOA V48 50ft 10in V52 54ft 6in
Beam V48 13ft 6in V52 14ft 7in
Disp V48 17.7t V52 21t
Power V48 IPS-435hp V52 D11-670hp
