SO now its coming time to get your boat in the water

I've never understood the rationale of taking the boat out of the water in the winter. Ours has remained in,and will come out in March for A/F polishing and other bits of work.
Surely the boat is safer in the relative warmth of the water and there is always the possibility of a trip or two out if the weather is kind.

We pull our boat out in the winter and do the work needed in the winter as we were doing relatively few miles when we did keep her in. It made more sense for us to use December, January and February to do the work needed to ensure a trouble free nine months of cruising.

Come March and the lighter days we are itching to get back in the water and start using the boat properly again, not look to be pulling it out onto the hardstanding and start working on it.

We make sure the boat has plenty of heaters onboard to keep the temperatures well above freezing which seems to work a treat.

It also depends how many jobs there are to do. As there are always a mix of things to be done, I vary between inside and outside depending on the weather. So far this winter the outside jobs are well advanced, because there have been dry and comparitively mild days in January.
It's better to be working inside a warm boat in winter with the radio on and making progress towards the summer, than moping about at home moaning about the weather!

I don't even bother with heaters when not aboard. If the boat is properly winterised, they're unnecessary.
Flush the raw water side with antifreeze mix, then drain
Drain the domestic water system and partially drain the calorifier
Pump the toilet system dry
Ensure there is adequate ventilation, site a few dessicant moisture absorbers
Job done
