what did you guys do on the long weekends without your boat ,me boat one weekend and home match the next

There is a inverse correlation between non boating conditions and the amount of times I post on here

Went to SE Asia for a month and nipped off on other holidays.

Our pre-season maintenance began mid Jan but nothing more we can do until out-drive bits (preventative) arrive at the end of the month. Then OH will spring clean down below, i'll do the compounding / polishing and then back in the water :)

Late start this year (Prob around 10 April) due to us wandering off around Europe for a bit.

Ours has been out since just after Christmas.

We have been down every weekend since pottering around, servicing the drive, doing bits and bobs and random jobs.

We just have the polishing and waxing, antifouling and a few minor little bits to finish off now so hopefully we should be ready to relaunch on 3rd March just in time for some warmer weather.

Rafiki has remained afloat. She will come out in March for a/f, anodes, polish and wax, back in for April. We have had a few weekends on board, but the weather hasn't been great of late.

Stella has had her time ashore (nov, dec) and is now back in the water, living 15mins away is a great advantage - am down there doing bits and pieces as often as time allows, always something to fix/improve! My family are starting to wonder where I really live :)

We don,t really start until May .Thats in the Med ,it's to do with sea temp these days .
Boats annual boys boozey maintainance week is booked 1week in May - from then on will be on it a lot like every month .
Been wintering in Switzerland , since Dec sking ,snowboarding or Nordic sking vertually every day .
Not seen the boat since mid Oct -spoke to guardiene yesterday - yard are starting some instructions i sent them to replace two windows ( wrong colour glass by a few RAL no,s repaired by previous owner ?? ) I think this week ? .
It's Uk 1/2 term next week 18 th Feb ----
So will check which Apline passes ( hopefully Simplon ) are open and via Italy will drive down to SoF sometime next week to eyeball the boat and get away from sreamimg Brit Families having there week .

I retired @ 54 y last summer- so we now plan v little just set off .looking fwd to boating when the sking ends.

I've been working on the boat every weekend since Christmas.
It came out last October and I've had the props re-pitched and balanced.
I've polished them myself with a felt flap disc on an angle grinder and the appropriate coarse & fine soap bars to suit hard metals, they are now mirror finish.

As January was quite good weather (i.e. dry) I did quite a few outside jobs then, including polishing the hull and repainting the anchor chain markings. I also scraped off all the loose flaking antifoul ready for priming. As the hull has been epoxied the a/f doesn't adhere very well, so I'm going to try priming it this time in all the areas where it has been flaking, before antifouling again. So at the moment it looks a right poxy mess.

I'm currently just fitting a psw inverter and galvanic isolator, once completed the boat will be ready for the longer independent cruising I've been working towards for years.

Just awaiting a few gelcoat repairs to be done by the yard, then I'll give it a final finish polish, wax, a/f, boot top and it'll be ready for launching early March I hope.

We've been out on the boat every weekend apart from the last one and over Christmas. The weather has been great, nice and flat seas, we just close the doors and put the heating on.
Having the engines serviced in the next few weeks. Planning to lift out for a few weeks in March or April when the weather warms up. After crawling around on the floor in the rain and sleet last year, I decided not to do it again.

Because my boat is newish I don't have many boaty tasks but I am studying for my Permis Hauturière. If anyone knows of an English language course for the hauturière please let us know (obviously I'll do the exam in French!)

I did it with these in ENG in 2003 .
At the time they rounded up the prospective ENG speaking ,about 4 of use inc one German a banker based in NY -and ran the course ,so need to be flexible re dates .
Christian supplied all the past papers 300 + MCQ ,s - trans to ENG ,and from memory you get say 30 on the day .
She got us with Toulon an ENG translation /dual Eng and Fr of the theory test ,and was allowed to be present during the test .Protacol was we put our hand up if we did not understand the translation .

I understand it's just in Fr these days ? Not sure ask Christian , if she does it in Eng and arranges an ENG test ??

Our tutor was a French Canadien --fit bird ( back in 2003 ) was difficult to concentrate :)

Btw on the odd occasion French "officialdom " has inspected us , I have a file and tip it out on the cockpit table ,it's no coincidence that " there " Permit always seems to land on top .They like that .

Service engine (vp d4)
Service drive (dph)
Antifoul hull

All normal so far,but now the list of additional work

Thank you for that, I will follow it up first thing tomorrow

Engines & legs serviced, Turbo sorted (Thankyou Volvo Paul).

Hull wet sanded all over & primed where necessary. Legs sanded, bare metal etch primed & over primed. Gelcoat repaired on a few minor marks. Other small jobs completed.

This weekend will hopefully see final prime coat, topsides washed and inside cleaned.
Next weekend will hopefully see antifoul coats & final inside cleaning.
Weekend after will hopefully see final wash, dry and waxing, and fenders etc loaded up ready for lift in during the week after.

It seems to have been a very long time since we took ownership of her in November, and a 5 hour round trip most weekends for all the work, sleeping aboard in very cold weather, but I am confident it will all be worth it!

We bought a new to us boat 3 weeks ago. We spent the first 12 days sleeping on board on the hard in the marina because the winds were too high for the guys to get us in. Finally launched last Wednesday and had to come home on Saturday :( We've left the shafts disconnected after looking for and hopefully finding the source of a vibration ( new flexible couplings purchased ready to fit on next visit)

Last year we waited until the end of June to antifoul after being advised that that would be the best time after the algae bloom. The boat did seem to stay cleaner so we'll be doing the same this year.

I've never understood the rationale of taking the boat out of the water in the winter. Ours has remained in,and will come out in March for A/F polishing and other bits of work.
Surely the boat is safer in the relative warmth of the water and there is always the possibility of a trip or two out if the weather is kind.

Our new boat came from the Broads. We had a call the day before we were due to pick up saying that they couldn't move her as the river had frozen over. We went up the following day and the broker used our boat and their own dorie to break the ice :(

At the sea though I think being in the water must be safer.
