So it's now 2021, what would you now choose as things have moved on

What do you mean by you get to dictate how well maintained they are as I am asking about a brand new boat that comes with either option delivered in 2022

For a new boat with a warranty ... IPS ... easier to park, better fuel consumption, better performance, better internal space.
Maintenance costs will be higher, but hey, you don't buy a brand new 42ft boat to save money.

Longer term with a brand new boat that you maintain you get to dictate how well it is maintained throughout its life. If you keep on top of it its more likely to last longer..
I didn't get from the original question whether its a brand new boat or a new to you boat.

That was my interpretation ... if you keep on top of maintenance, issues are less likely to happen.

Shafts. However IPS is used, in the main, to free up cabin space, so unlikely there will be space for a shaft drive option unless it's on vee drives.

The Rodman 41 had exactly the same internal layout irrespective of shafts or IPS. ?
A MBM report on the boat erroneously attributed the space available for a third cabin to the fact that IPS was powering the boat.
