So cmon who actually likes winter ?

I love it in winter, quite often flat water, no-one in site, you can exploer where ever you want and you can even berth in Cowes for 2 hours and nobody takes your money! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I was out in The Solent last week (Monday and Tuesday) and mine was pretty much the only boat out there. The sea was like glass and in the afternoon the sun came out and it was glorious. No queing for the lock. A great time to be out on the water.

So sorry to give you the bad news but if SWMBO copes with the winter blues by shopping and hitting the old plastic you are stuffed!

It took us two years to adjust. Always used to go out in winter months for nice meals, to the pub, cinema days out shopping (Yawn). One day swmbo wanted a biggerboat. I says yes we can afford but we have to cut down in winter. Sensibly the first year was a half way house where we cut down fancy meals and went more to the cinema (free) and a couple of times a week to the pub. The second year we cut all out except Cinema, so it was a miserable winter! I did however used to treat us to a week in the sun in Feb to get us through. Now we are used to the miserable winters and staying in and accept it is a trade off for the boat. Of course we got so bored one weekend we decided to have a baby which definitely stops us going out but has cost us 6 times as much! Mind you would not swop it for the world......

From 1998-2003 I had a new boat every year but to re-balance finances have had to keep this boat nearly three years (and the fact we moved house after 5 years staying put). Financialy I can afford a boat accross the year, unfortunately it costs a shed pile more in Summer so we let rip when the sun shines and snuggle up when it's cold and then pay off the bills.

Does anyone else have to do this type of Gain/loss excercise accross the year to afford their dream........? /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

OK...Medreamer mentioned the January Sunshine, we were on our *new* boat (well first time since we got it) in Mid Jan, and I needed a liberal spread of suntan lotion to stop the lobster colour coming on.... We had lunch on the Flybridge, but I will admit the wind was a little chilly! To prove it here is the pic...

We were out on our boat in the Irish Sea for a few hours a few weeks ago. The sea was calm, light winds, good vis.......but it was cold!! There were a few sailing boats, the Isle of Man ferry & a fishing boat out there but that was it. It was the first trip of the year & it was great fun. Here's praying for warmer weather. As we are still in the "learning" stage I am really looking forward to our first trip to the Isle of Man. Any hints anyone?

Had one of the best bits of fun, ever, a week or so ago. Went out on my own across the Bar to find a lumpy sea with an occasional group of 3 big waves speeding into the the estuary mouth. Sun was shining, wind was strong, cold and blowing out to sea.
I managed to get on the back of a "big one" and sat there at an acute angle with a 2-3m drop about 3m in front of me. The top of the wave was blowing back over the top of the boat and the spray was sparkling in the sun with a rainbow effect.
Managed to hold station for around half a mile - oh for a photo - but I was concentrating too hard.
