I recall that ill health had led him to sell his beloved catamaran, but was wondering how he is or whether anyone has heard from him.

He was a prolific poster and very generous with good sound advice. A top bloke. Hope he's OK.

It is sad when someone like SL who I thought always made a good contribution to the forum has to withdraw for whatever reason. I also wish hime well in the future.

Thank you to all for the kind words. I will pass them onto SnowLeopard and see if I can encourage him to revisit :) SL is my brother and I am pleased to say he is pretty well and fit. However his wife has had a difficult time health-wise - hence selling the boat. She is much better than she was, I should add. SL is still dinghy-sailing and acting as a source of reference for me and pessimist who are considering a step over to the dark side (one too many hulls). I plan to try to recruit him if we need a delivery trip :)

Thank you for those kind words everyone. As Penny (Pragmatist) has said, SWMBO had 3 separate blue-light trips to hospital with life-threatening illnesses and I deemed it unwise to risk a repeat involving hi-line pickups offshore so we left her ashore for 3 seasons, gathering green slime. Out of the blue I received an offer for her from someone who spotted her in the yard and I have recently completed the sale.

For anyone who wants to sell I have just one piece of advice - boats sell, but generally for a lot less than you had hoped for!

And yes, I bought myself a Finn and was starting to get the hang of it despite its great weight. Then a summer squall picked up a nearby marquee which wrapped itself around my slender carbon mast and snapped it off at deck level. I'm still waiting for insurers to sort themselves. I have fitted a lugsail rig on the tender I built for Snow Leopard so can still get afloat if rather slowly.
