Where is it????? My 8 yr old is desperate for the snow, as she cannot remember really having any in the garden, let alone building a snowman, Me I think it's great as well as it makes my garden look as nice as everybody else's!!!!! The snow is all around us, but as yet, not in Swansea!!!!
Perhaps later ???

Flying in from US today, Wonderful view of white powder coated Scottish Highlands and Isle of Skye this afternoon in clear skies and sunlight. Then cloudy all way down to London, where cloud broke up a bit, and could see that light coating of snow stopped south of Watford.

No problems on roads - no snow. But a few hours ago, wind howled,
temperature dropped and heavy snow fall. Everything white now in Thames Valley. Log fire going as bleeding cold.

Well I must have the lot here 8"!!!, SWMBO had to abandon the car, had to rescue a colleague with my 4 x 4, multiple pile ups on a steep hill, now stranded. Please send liquid food parcels ASAP /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif AND where are the bloody Snow Ploughs?

There's plenty here in Worcestershire - been out all afternoon playing in my land rover.

Total casualties seen so far:

1. Artic slid off road into ditch.

2. 4 different off-roaders all crashed when drivers found out that although 4WD allows plenty of traction to accelerate, it does bugger all when trying to stop 2 tonnes on ice. . . .

3. About 300 cars that just seem to conk out at the first sight of snow - probably not seen a service in 5 years!

:D

The councils have had almost 2 weeks notice of this. Where are they. We're ready for it was the statement.
SWMBO did not get home from work until Midnight last night and she normally leaves at 19:30. Left at 22:00. 2 hours to do a normally 1/2 hour journey. Meanwhile here in Denmark, it's been snowing for most of the past week, harbour iced up, but everything is still running smoothly.

Here it is! Taken last night at about 19.30 down here in Hampshire - about 2 miles from the Hamble

So. What did you want the council to do, two weeks before it snowed. Chase round with a snow plough??...../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Hampshire. 20 mile journey home last night = over three hours. No grit on main roads so far as I can tell (why not?), abandoned cars adding to the misery.

Home to station to go to London this morning = 20 minutes (normally 5). Roads still apparently not gritted (and I'm talking about Winchester here, not out in the sticks). Train cancelled (of course) but next train on time and got in at ETA.

The fact is that it doesn't really make economic sense to make huge investments in road clearing plant etc., when we only get weather like this about once every 5 years dahn sarf. But that won't stop me whingeing about it when I'm on the receiving end.

Conversation with the kids this morning:

Me: Is it still snowy?
Them: Yes; it's brilliant isn't it ?
Me: No!

Re: You can have ours

I drove back from Leeds yesterday - left at 5.30 - 3 hrs home right through the "Midlands" - no problems apart from the washers froze (or got clogged) - had to stop and clean the windscreen. Big slippery out in the lanes today though.

Re: You can have ours

Set off from Lancs. to attend site meetings in Angelsey and Betsw-y-coed N Wales at 7am yesterday, took me 1 hr to do 20 miles to get past the dreaded Thelwall viaduct on the M6. No real problems weather wise bit of occasional snow bit of sleet and rain, biggest problem was Pillocks who drive at 28mph as soon as there's a hint of anything. Same thing coming back at 3 pm. Today its quite nice , in Lancs. anyway.

Re: You can have ours

Being a big kid who doesn't drive I rather like the stuff. Still took an hour on the bus to work this morning, for a 25 minute journey. SWMBO didn't bother, apparently the A3 was blocked and the alternative was the A32, which is only fun for bikers in the summer, and wasn't gritted.

Re: You can have ours

Had an important appointment to play dominoes in a pub at 4p.m. yesterday. Took 30 mins. to go no more than 2 miles - all within town - only to find pub was shut.
Friend in W'hampton took 4 hrs to go 4 miles - again mainly in built up area.
Pathetic.
