erm....Thanks :)

It's true, my wife and I will be giving a talk at the Cruising Association about our 3 month trip from Gosport to Orkney and back to Largs last year. Where we went, how we planned it, our highs and lows, what went wrong and how we survived 3 months together on our Sadler 32, that sort of thing.

We're not claiming to know everything about Scotland, or be the oracles of Scottish cruising. It's basically the things that we learnt on our trip and we're passing on that information so the mistakes we made can be avoided.

There are hints and tips about cruising Scotland, that would be handy for anyone thinking of doing some extended cruising in Northern waters.

Anyone interested in cruising Scotland that can't make it, can read our tips in the May issue of Yachting Monthly. Currently running 10 pages of glorious photographs and my not so glorious ramblings about the things that will be useful if you want to undertake such a trip.

Everywhere is somewhere that it is difficult for the majority of people to get to!

But what about sailors? Do they all live and work within easy reach of the CA for an evenings presentation?
Pity as it really would have been a presentation I would have liked to have got to.
Maybe I can make such trips in a year or twos time when retired? Perhaps then I wont be able to afford the fuel or even the car to put the fuel into, or even a boat to sail. :)

Good luck tonight Snooks.

Thanks :)

We've already given the talk to the White Horse Cruising club, somewhere in Oxfordshire, who stayed awake and enjoyed it, or so they said! We're also on to do the talk for the Sadler meet in June.

As I said, there will be 10 pages about our experience and what we learnt, in the May issue of Yachting Monthly. Hopefully everyone should find it of some use whether they are planning to cruise around Scotland, or just northern Europe.

Don't make it sound TOO good, or they'll all want to come;)

We don't want the peace shattered with incessant radio checks, thank you very much

Don't worry we kept mentioning midges and weather so much no one will dare venture north for fear of flesh eating bugs and continuous gales!!!

The talk seemed to go down well, around 80 people turned up, and I don't think anyone fell asleep:eek:

Not in the slightest, a great talk and some fabulous photos. I brought a couple of guests from across the pond and you really openend their eyes to the beauty of our little islands.

And I wish I'd seen this earlier, I also proposed to my young lady last summer on a beach whilst sailing around the UK. Granted we only made it as far as Whitstable, but then we didn't have as long off work. But if I'd heard your tip I could have saved myself the whole £15 I spent on Argos' finest cubic zirconia...
