Why is giving sound advice on here and the associated YBW Forums, being made so difficult with trolls waiting to pounce on every damn word, rather than reading a whole post. Criticism without advice seems to be the norm now.

This disease of criticising individual lines of a thread instead of properly reading what is written is slowly killing this forum. Why would folk want to offer sound advice only to find trolls sniping at every mention of anything.

Much more of it and I for one will be off - permanently, as I note have many other sensible posters the past year or so.

Rant over.
 
I kinda disagree with you here and with no threads/advice you have given to single out either. You have your opinion and others have theirs, what makes your opinion king over everyone else's? It's a discussion forum and a very good one to boot so I personally like to hear everyone's view on a subject be it wrong or right. 99% of the time the collective point of view of the forum solves many problems. I don't see a problem and i don't see many trolls here either, just people offering advice that was asked for.:rolleyes:
 
Just a reflection of modern times, sadly.

Not reading a whole post through is concurrent with the rest of their day for many people. Constantly in a rush; no time for anything. Certainly not for reading things properly.

Maybe they should take up a relaxing hobby,
like boating...........
 
Its a sad vindication of society generally where more and more people are being indoctrinated into attacking each other and this has become widespread among the youngsters.
 
A lot of times we see a chance for a funny line and just jump in, can’t help it. Of course it’s not always as funny as you think it is, especially to the op who might be in a serious situation. I don’t think it’s trolling, people do it in live conversations. It’s banter
 
What annoys me is people answering the question they think you should have asked rather than the question you actually asked.

Also people giving advice when they actually have little idea
 
I think we should all agree to agree there is one answer and only one answer to everything. Should we set that by post count or age as to who gets dibbs?

Grow up and stop stamping your feet, you might slip and fall in the water again
 
Forums by their nature have a range of disparate contributors and some have big trolling problems. I don't think this is one of those places...trolling is very rare here - someone disagreeing with someone's comment is not trolling in my book. Deliberately baiting people by making unreasonable comments just to provoke a reaction is, and I hardly ever see that. If you post and contribute to a forum you must be prepared for people to disagree with you and for people to post comments that don't quite answer your question etc. It's not right that you demand that other contributors answer a post adhering to your own arbitrary rules.

Overall I think that this forum has a brilliant range of very helpful, knowledgeable and amusing contributors - I for one have learnt so much and have had great support from fellow forumites for the nearly 20 years that I have been on here. Long may it continue!

I've seen you post things on here that are just plain wrong - obviously you can't expect people not to correct you when that happens. If people don't do that on a forum, everything on the forum becomes devalued and becomes nothing more than a random collection of opinions based in nothing.

BTW I also don't think its good practice to test for live wires with your bare fingers - get a non-contact tester. Perhaps you should consider that other peoples' comments might be valid, rather than ranting about them,

Yeah but you do see a lot of numpties inadvertently asking the wrong question here.

As for people giving advice when they have little idea, I always like to qualify any answer I give with a level of confidence, e.g. "apparently", "perhaps", etc. If I ever fail to do this feel free to challenge me!

What does wind me up is when people state an opinion as if it was an absolute fact. I remember posting a photo of some sediment in my fuel, a few on here were adamant that it was bug, the 'proper' experts confirmed that it was nothing more than some harmless sediment that has never since caused a problem.
 
With any Forums/Forai there a %ickheads (yer count me in!) but I don't think there are many on here, especially the Mobo forum
I stumbled in here in 2004 ish
I had a mobo query and I could not believe the amount of advice and help I had
It was bloody amazing!
Nowadays I don't frequent much for advise because at My age I know everything!!

'Tossers' that they are and have nowt else to do and know f all
Ignore the beggars
There is such a knowledge base on here and some great comedians too
They are a minority too
Some have fecked off and gladly
Some Posters have left because of being miffed and its a shame about some good contributers
Some have been banned by Moderators
The Lounge over the years has produced some right dozy pillocks but that's the Nature of the Place
Because I had such good advice when I 'Joined' I will always pop in now and again to reciprocate if I can
If and when I pop into The Lounge it is mostly for humour
I cannot do 'serious' to save my life!
We need people like you superheat
For instance
I need to know how to keep the RIB warm
Don't just f off in the 'heat of the moment'
