I have become the proud owner of a Snapdragon 21 at the ripe old age of 75. I have today removed the tabernacle which was rusted through. To do so I had to cut off the rusted screw heads (or what was left of them)and ease the tabernacle upwards from the coach roof. My problems are: 1. What is left of the screws seems to be impossible to move with a pair of Mole grips. 2 There is a slightly raised area where the tabernacle sits and is screwed down. Is this a specially thickened out area of fibreglass to accommodate the tabernacle. 3 Is there a timber bearer underneath this or do the screws simply drive in to the fibreglass. If so can I simply cut off the old stubs and reposition the holes in the new tabernacle being made.
I would greatly appreciate any help or advice from other owners on this issue.

My Father had a 21 and the tabernacle was through bolted. The boltheads were glassed in and covered inside the cabin ... and the plate was a resined plywood sandwiched into the GRP.

But whether that was normal - have no idea ...

I would suggest contacting the Snapdragon Owners Association ... Home | Snapdragon Mirage and Invaders Association

before going further ... they have all the data on the boats.

Thanks for your quick reply. The tabernacle I have removed is made from mild steel and rusted rights through. I will try looking under the headlining in the mast area for bolt heads tomorrow. It looked like the old one was held in place by dome head screws !

Similar to my 23 I had ..... shallow dome head machine screws .....

I do suggest contact Snapdragon Association before proceeding further - get the best info possible. They hold all the manufacturers paperwork etc.
