In my quest for yacht to cruise in I read with disappointment that it would not be eligible for ocean racing but one version is equipped with an electric toilet and ten life jackets so I could people smuggling,one review notes that the hull is made of GRP which needs little attention,maybe painting with anti fouling once a year……that sounds good😂…….oneformite says boat ownership is aspirational😳

Are your requirements essentially that it floats, largely looks after itself and doesn’t need a complete rebuild - plus located near you?

A friend of mine used to manage a business park where the main competition was - a point he always laboured when talking to letting prospects - bang in the middle between a sewage works and a football stadium.

Wansworth, in all seriousness, what us it with you.
Is this looking for a boat but never buying one a joke?
Who is the joke for, yourself?
If it isn't a joke then stop looking as you clearly don't really want a boat.
Nothing will be perfect, time marches on, your requirements change. If you can't buy one that fits some of your needs given the excess secondhand boats on the market then the problem isn't the market.
I don't get it.

Why all the negativity?

if you don't want to read about Wansworth's boat non-buying, then don't.

I think it's a shame he doesn't have a boat, especially in a place many of us would dream of sailing, but his ongoing quest keeps him and us entertained. Where's the harm in it?

One day he may even surprise us by buying one!
 
There used to be a Snapdragon 24 at Heybridge when we were there in the '70s. Every weekend a couple would come down and take the boat out and anchor off Osea, returning on Sunday. From what we could gather they were both married, but not to each other, which is why the Snapdragon for me has always been a symbol of illicit desire. I believe they could be sailed as well if desired, for those with plenty of patience.

My recollection of sailing a Snappie 24 with blokes 4-up on flotilla in the 1970s means that for me they are as far as possible to get from "a symbol of illicit desire"!

Yes, there is room in a Snapdragon 24 😇, but for the illicit bit, especially for the making of opportunities, one of these would probably have more ability to attract the svelte and (initially) bikini-clad:

As for sailing ability, yes, if the wind's in the wrong direction, well, that's what the engine's for, but on a broad reach or a run, we saw hull speed (about 6 knots) through the water many times.

If you have the need for speed, you need an Anderson 22. Maybe it's time to give the Snappie a similar reputation as a nookie generator

Unfortunately having owned boats mainly of doubtful qualities I admit to trepidation at saying yes and buying a boat as at this momment Thereare several family problems that really need to be sorted and spending money on a yacht doesn’t seem correct.But I have these lapses and really think I could become a boat owner again ……I freely admit I find it tiresome😕
