Snap Davits

I'm thinking of replacing the normal davits on my boat with snap davits on account of the reduced mooring fees from having the tender in a verical position rather than horizontal. This would save about a metre so would pay for itself very quickly.

Trouble is the tender is a Valiant D250 which has a very solid floor and weighs over 30 kilos. Thing is - would the weight of the tender deform the inflatable tube or even be too much for the snap davits?

Anyone have any experience of a heavy tender on snap davits?

Also how do you get those little picture thingies on your post?

Any advice would be welcome

Er, why dont you just remove the davits and ask the marina to re-measure your boat and then sneak them back on again
Personally, I would'nt bother with snap davits especially when you've got a perfectly decent pair of proper davits fitted. I've had snap davits on a previous boat and found a number of disadvantages
1. You have to remove the o/b engine every time
2. Its difficult to align the snap davits and the connection points on the dinghy when the sea is choppy
3. The connection points on the dinghy tubes are glued and maybe not strong enough for a heavy(ish) dinghy like yours
4. If the tubes are not fully inflated, then the dighy flops about on the snap davits
5. The dinghy obstructs movement on the bathing platform which may be a boarding issue

I hate my snap davits
They are in the way on the side of the dingy and scratch the boat when along side.
Too much drag when moving
hard to pull up and launch
o/b on and off every time
keep what you have got

agree Deleted User's 1&5 but I have a 3m tender which I believe weighs around 35kg and have no problems with the strength bouncing around on the back of a relatively small boat.
However I would consider the saving in mooring fees a smal price to pay for the convience of 'proper' davits!
