Snap Davits – Pros and Cons

re-getting into the tenders whilst they are afloat - why not tie off the stern and the bow - strapping it across the stern of your boat - that way it doesn't move (as much) when you get in ....

Snap Davits Pro and Cons

There are over 9 different Snap Davits in the Weaver Industries range. They can be fitted to any boat with or without a swim platform, including power boats and sailing boats. If the correct davits are fitted, there will be no problems with 'dragging'. One of the greatest reasons for fitting snap davits is that you can embark and disembark the dinghy without it moving around, whilst still connected to the back of the boat. Once aboard, just snap the davit back and release the dinghy from the boat. As for the cost, with the fabourable exchange rate, the prices should have come down considerably. Have a look at www.weaverindustries.com or www.sternfirst.com.au for more ideas and information. I have been using these snap davits for over 20 years and have found them to still be the best solution if fitted correctly.:D

Hi could the forum let me know what they think of Snap Davits? Following my recent post on a tender, I am thinking that snap davits may be a better way to go to store the tender while cruising, do they cause drag while under way?

Thanks in advance.

As many have already said, well worth getting but they are pricey. I used to store the tender below but found it too much hassle on my size of boat. My tender is about the width of my stern and not noticed any drag or reduction in speed. Before I had them fitted I was thinking like you, will it by like a big sail on the back. Mine are on stainless steel supporting struts which mean I can access the bathing platform without too much hassle.

The other important point for me, the tender doubles up as a life raft where I can quickly release if required, you would never do that with it stored below.

Since I've had it fitted to the stern I found I use my tender a lot more than when it was stored below.

If you do go for the snap davits type system, make sure you get yourself a 2-5metre security cable to lock it to the platform when away.
