changed my dinghy, & now need to equip it with a pair of snap davit pads...I just need the pads, I have the metal parts, (2 sizes so does not matter if the pads are the smaller weaver type or larger wetline type). Just struggling to get my head round price charged, cheapest I have found is £59 each + P&P.... I think I bought the entire snap davit kit 3 years ago for £150...

Anyone have a pair? Anyone know the best snap davit pad shop?

Thanks :)

I can never understand why snap davits are so expensive! I want a set but really struggle to justify the cost.

I might just tie the tender to the stern cleats and cheat!

Ripster, thanks for taking the time to have a look, but it probably would have helped if I posted a picture of what I need, its these parts;

you can take them off your old dinghy and re glue them on your new one.

It takes time but can be done.
Use meths to eat the glue away , a bit at a time to get under the patch.

The patches shown on ebay are not the usual ones used with snap davits. However I do think they would work OK and are MUCH cheaper!

Nice thought, but these would have to take the entire dinghy's weight & the only protection from the dinghy against the metal parts of the snap davits would be these pads, and after a season I would think they would be worn away.

These are davit pads for boats with "proper" davits, so to tie a rope or attach a wire to and winch up.

Hi Daka,

Does removal damage the old dinghy? I plan to sell it and having these davit pads does not add to the value, probably the reverse. So would be quite happy to re-use if I can get them off, but I don't want to get half way through and find I have ruined the old dinghy, as its only just under 3 years old.

Unfortunately I did stick them on really well with the proper 2 pack glue!

as long as you didnt mark it out with a ball pen and or score it with harsh sand paper it is possible to remove the patch and glue without damage.

Its not difficult, it is time consuming.
The meths eats into the glue but cant soak into the middle, so it is a little at a time.

adey, will pm you, as I said I did fit them properly, so did rough up the area and mark it out.... :rolleyes:

I love this forum

this feels like hard work sometimes :rolleyes:

You can take the patch off without damage.

If there is pre existing damage under the patch then obviously it isnt going to magically vanish {dispare smilies }

Sand paper marks can be t cut out, deep scores may remain.

VicS may be able to advise how to remove ballpoint marks.

Personally I would snap adeys hand off .:)

perhaps talking at cross purposes Daka, I do get it.

The patch can be taken off without damage, however the sanded PVC underneath the pads ain't going to look nice once revealed, attempting to compound out an area of sanded PVC on a dinghy I don't think would end up doing anything. Removal of pen marks not an issue.

So I am already in touch with adey and will pursue his kind offer.

Many thanks for your advice
