Re: Now you don`t get away that easy.
If your father was in boats then he has my respect and there is nothing to say that you shouldn’t wear his dolphins. However please remember to wear them on the right hand side of your uniform as this denotes you did not earn the badge but are the next of kin.
If you wish to put them on your boat, well, you’re not a brother so who cares?
Although submariners only represent 4% of our Navy they have always been in a different navy from the lads in general service and fleet air arm, this was brought home to me very early on after joining my first sub HMS/M Token in Devonport dockyard.
After working all afternoon trying to get the boat ready for sea three of us decided we would like a decent meal so we went off to Drake barracks to see if we could get some supper. Standing in line we were a bit scruffy and stunk a bit of diesel, obviously submariners. As we filled our trays up with grub the duty PO came over, Over here lads he said we’ve put a special room aside for you lot to eat in. As we followed him down the corridor he opened a door and we went in. Then it dawned on us that we were standing in the gent’s toilet.
Not very nice but we always looked on that sort of thing as a compliment
If you want to pretend you were a submariner well I suppose that’s a compliment too.
