When we were kids one of my grandfathers used to have an afternoon kip while smoking. He always dozed off with a lit fag between his fingers, arm hanging over the side of the bed. We used to love sitting and watching until it burnt down to his fingers - enjoyed the cursing, good language lessons.

a kipper is anything that has been split down the backbone rather than up the front. The thing we know as a kipper is a smoked herring which has been kippered.

If you are alone, you can smoke what you like, but smoke can cause seasickness for other people, if they can't get any clean air to breath.
I think you have got too many free hands if you can sail and smoke at the same time.
