Smelly Fridge

Hate to say this, but from bitter experience don't rely on any of the above to work. I hope you're luckier than me, but in my experience (2 events) nothing has even begun to shift the smell in a well stinky fridge. It seems to me that the smell becomes ingrained into the plastic and washing it off isn't addressing the problem at all, you just end up with a very clean fridge made of very smelly plastic. If so be prepared to live with it or its the deep six I'm afraid.

A few years ago we left some chicken in an unplugged freezer for the summer, the freezer was in Saudi . . . . . . we knew something was up when more flies than usual welcomed us "home".

Whilst I agree with the above no-one has mentioned Dettol or disinfectant if you like. Its use will make a huge difference, as will rubbing alcohol. Milton is a good maintenance regime but it wont deal a large dose of nasty stuff. And Bicarb is good to kill the pong but only after the nasties have been killed. A bar of smelly soap in the fridge will make things bearable while you plan your campaign.

Killing all the nasties is a trial of wills, they will live where you didn't think there was a space or a seam or a vent. A powerful disinfectant spray is a good weapon - we use a garden sprayer to blast all the hiding places - many times - but we prevailed.

And if all of the above fail and it is indeed a smaell ingrained into the plastic. I would try a paint job on the inside of the palstic. Preferrably a polyurethane or epoxy 2 pack. Bit obviously clean the paint thoroughly before use and well after it has hardened.
good luck olewill
