I have a 1998 Four Winns Vista 238 that has a nasty smell coming from the starboard side in the mid cabin and in the engine bay.
I have inspected for leaks from the heads to the holding tank, all seems OK, however, the hose from the heads to the holding tank seems to smell really bad.

I think that the boat was left ashore for about 2 years, is it possible that the hose has de-graded and needs replacing.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

Thanks

Paul

P.S Happy New Year to you all

It will be the hose, they only have a finite life until the smells start finding their way through.
Vetus have a newer type which I believe is much better than their older pipe.
Just through away and replace the old pipe.

Assuming you haven't allowed Leyton to use the Loo then the pipes have become porous retaining the smell and allowing it to seep through. Answer replace pipes.

Take a paper towel, rub it on the hose. If the paper smells, then the hose has become porous

Make sure you buy (Gas tight) and not ordinary hose, any decent pipe supplier knows what this is, as it prevents the odour permeating the the hose wall, and use two stainless hose clips at each end. If the connection is continually wet, use some Sikaflex when you assemble it to guarantee a dry joint.

A temporary cure would be to wrap the offending pipe in Saranwrap, the clingfilm stuff. It must be SaranWrap (PVDC) and not the other types which are PVC. PVDC is a much better diffusion barrier for small (smelly) molecules than PVC.
