Just had a second hand Eber fited, with all new trunking and controls. A couple of questions>>

Do they smell for the first few hours of use? Ive run mine up for an hour, and it still smells of hot rubber. Does this smell go eventually?

Also, wht's the significance of the green and red LED's on the thermostat. When switched on, both are illuminated.

Many thanks

I've recently had a new one fitted and it did smell and still does a little. I think its possibly the oils used when the trunking was extruded burning off. I've run mine for about 3 hours now and the smell is almost gone.

I installed my new D1 a year ago and have run it for probably 40 hours since then and it still smells.

I haven't got my manual to hand, but you should have the red and green iluminated under normal conditions.

If you can lay your hands on the manual, the combinaion of these leds on/off gives a simple guide to fault finding.

Sorry can't be more helpful.

PS - I seem to remember mine smelt a bit when new. Proably a combination of hot paint etc.

Cheers

I had an old one removed and new one installed 2-3 yrs ago; it remained smelly, until I realised it was drawing it's air (to be heated, not for the diesel flame) from the engine compartment, so I was getting warmed engine-room smells. I re-routed the air-intake to the wheelhouse, so it's circulating warm and smell-free air now. Perfect.

I've had a new one fitted & had a similar problem. Told by the dealer that the exhaust is coated in a preservative oil which burns off when the heater is fired up. Only problem is that it can take quite a while-especially if the exhaust is lagged with a fibreglass sock & then encased in ducting as per standard eberspacher spec.

From the other posts hopefully it should go in time....

We have a D3 new in '92, so an old model. Bought the boat second hand in '99 and it has never smelt. Its a two-speed model. As for the lights, mine shows red when the cabin temp is below that on the thermostat, and then goes to the green light and drops to half fan speed when up to temp. As temp drops - red on - full speed.

Thanks for the info. Spoke to Krugers who confirmed it needed 3 hrs to dry out the oil used in the manufacture of the hoses.

Also, thanks for the info about the LED's. Seems strange that both should be illuminated in normal use, but hey!

Three hours may be optimistic. My system has been installed for two years and it still smells a little. Used most weekends through the winter for at least one hour on Sat and Sun.

A good point raised above.

You must have a clear air intake otherwise you are drawing stale air from the locker and ultimately the cabin.

When mine was installed by Kruger they drilled about 6 1 inch holes in the recess just above the engine controls in the cockpit.

Cheers
