Friday night, someone raided the always open unmanned shop on the pier on Canna, helped themselves to several hand knitted beanies some chocolate and other stock. Such a shame, this is far worse than the boats that use the community moorings and bugger off without paying. It sounds as if at least they did not take the honesty box but still this reflects badly on the boating community which make up the greatest majority of overnight visitors.

That's an outrage!
We were so charmed by that little shop and your typically Scottish concept of an honesty box. The fact that 25 families can scrape a living on such a remote island and take the trouble to provide some stores for us pampered tourists apparently does not get the respect it deserves. A sad day indeed.

As disheartening as this story is I've got to admire your 'journalistic licence' and sensationalism.
Your "smash and grab" and "raided" makes the BBC's "Sweets and knitted hats stolen from Canna's shop" seem tame. :)

These little unmanned honesty shops are a gem.

When we visited Orkney and Papa Westray, it wasn't until we were back on Mainland that we discovered my daughter had left a toy in the shop.

A couple of phone calls later, and then next day we were called to the Loganair desk in Kirkwall to collect the toy that had been delivered back for free by Loganair.

I was angry, as a not very regular customer I am as outraged as Westhinder, if you think this is sensationalist reporting have you ever read any of the stories about Scots and Scotland in the lounge, or perhaps they have settled down since I last ventured in there.

I am in total agreement, your anger(and others)is both understandable and justified.

When I read the title and then 'raided' I expected it to be a lot worse as in property damaged and/or someone threatened etc. I wasn't having a dig at you personally.

As for The Lounge, no thanks.
