Smallest boat you could spend a week on

We spent 5 nights/six days on our Yamarin 59HT last summer.
Falmouth to Newton Ferrers - one night on a mooring.
Two nights in Mayflower Marina in Plymouth - went up the Tamar and to Cawsands. Plus watched the GP Sail with the boats doing 30kts on their foils in 10kts of wind.
Two nights in Fowey and then home.

Marriage is still in tact.

It does depend on perspective (and a bit of 'progress'). If you watch videos from Tom Cunliffe or the like and their early boating experiences, having a non-leaking bucket for a toilet appeared a luxuary. I remember a Princess 45 in the 80's being a monster of a boat where as only this morning there is a repeat ad for Nick Burnham's review of a recent F45 (47ft) that runs with a headline of being a '(relatively) SMALL boat'!!
If you enjoy camping in a tent rather than needing a 40ft motorhome as a 'basic requirement', then translating that to boats a well laid out boat in the 20's ft would be fine. I think Nick Burnham's own boat is (unless he's changed it) a Jeanneau leader 805 which is only25ft-7inches overall and that looks doable for a week, for a sensible couple..

If you add kids, overnight guests or attempt longer stays onboard then to have any degree of comfort (or sanity) the size starts to step up. My 23ft Shetland was perfect for just 2 people for a week but now I spend extended time onboard and want to do more on the boat (work, study, entertain), now even a 50 odd foot Trader gets filled up pretty quickly.

I too have a Leader 805, just like Nick's, its entirely capable of a week on board, you just need to be organised and tidy ?

Myself and the swmbo have and just about to do another 12 day break quite comfortably on my 28ft sea ray as Flip272 says be organised and tidy which doesn't take much effort (she does it Lol)

My motor boat was in its hire life a 5 berth, and a week or two hire in it was common. There are still some in the hire fleets..
It's officially an Elysian 27CC, in real life that's 26ft 6inches by 9ft 6inches.

Then you think of her design history, the model was designed as a 25ft boat but got beaten into production by several other 25ft boats.
So they leant the stern aft, the bow forward and called it a 27ft when in reality that made no difference to the internal space.. so it's a 5 berth 25ft boat...

From my experience, when sitting in the rain for a couple of days things feel cramped very quickly as cabin fever sets in, especially with several people on board. 30ft for a couple is our sweet spot regardless of weather. Flybridge of course!

Reminds me of this old holiday snap from about1971.
That's me climbing all over the side deck my Gran, Mum, and two brothers and my Dad with the camera on one of my Grandparents hire boats.

That looks like a Buckingham 20 (which is what my parents had!) Or a 25 (the windows were longer in the 25..... ). Simpler times indeed - but as boats they work really well - we slept 4 very happily on her.

That's a clever boat.. They cram a lot into 25 odd foot.

I know, every now and then I get a yearning for something bigger / newer / better (?) then I look at other boats and think "that's pretty much the same set up for 3 times the price of the Leader"

You forget we moved on in winter, but skipped autumn. If I can be honest... much warmer than the house. I have no concerns regarding winter and we will go overseas when the boat is on the hard. I have a villa in Bali that we can retreat to.
How the other half live! Big plumbs will be along to berate you shortly. Bloody 1 percenters

Do you literally live on it all the time? How do you do washing and stuff like that?
Yes. Marina. When the kids are in school I am in the marina, when they are not, we move out. We hold enough water for 5 days. So tomorrow I will visit Cearnarfon for bunkering and supplies for the day and move out again.

Thanks for all the replies, I think it kind of confirms what I thought which is that something in the region of 35’ is big enough for an extended stay with two people on board in relative comfort.

Should also mean it’s big enough to have a generator, air con etc which I imagine is horrible without in the med.

Do you still have a land based home? Do you plan on travelling further afield given you could go basically anywhere?

What's the aft cabin like on her? Is that set up as a sleeping berth?
The Standard Elysian CC has the kitchen and sink in the aft cabin, whereas the wardrobe is opposite the shower / toilet, between cockpit and fore cabin. So most set up the foreward cabin as the bedroom, . It can be set up as two singles, or with a removable insert one very large V berth Double.
The aft cabin on most elysians had sink one side, gas cooker the other. Then two singles. With a cupboard unit filling the space beneath the decks between. On the 5 berth version that unit only reached berth level so an insert made a tight double one side and a single the other.

The above was the standard layout, which many boatyards followed, however some went their own way, so there are all sorts of layouts around.
