I recently asked about insuring a caravan and was told that if I w3as towing a caravan and it hit another vehicle it would not be insured under the car insurance, it would have to be insured in its own right.
So I realised that the small 9ft Sailing Dingy which I tow occasionally should perhaps be insured.
So apart from the obvious benefit of being insured should it mysteriously disappear, and the Indespension Trailer cost £800 , would it be insured against Third Party Claims if there was an accident whilst being towed.
Or am I looking for problems where there are non)

Your car insurance usually gives you third party insurance for a trailer you are towing so it would cover damage to another car or other items in an accident but NOT damage to the trailer. For that you have to have the trailer (be it boat, caravan or other) insured.

Our caravan is insured for that reason so if it gets damaged in an accident or stolen it would be covered by it's own insurance.

Policies from different companies may well differ in what they cover. The only way to be sure is to ask your insurer. Unless your policy wording specifically includes all that you want it to it is safest to assume that it is not covered.

my saga boat insurance for 15 foot open boat/trailer/outboard----fully comp is £106 a year----gone up £10 in 10 years----------ps just remembered saga stopped doing boat insurance and passed it on to??-----exactly same terms and conditions

I had the same situation.
Took my tender home only a mile and stopped by plod as I was not showing any number plate or rear lights.
Got warned not to do it again .I checked with my boat insurers who told me under road traffic act marine insurers are not legally able to offer liability insurance but would have covered damage to the tender for physical damage.
Checked with my motor vehicle insurers they wanted to charge me for towing as my policy excluded towing to reduce premium.
Double check, I would suggest with your motor insurer.
My mate took tender back at start of season.

My sailing boat insurance,16ft home designed and built boat, though the policy wording says up to 23ft (7M) says the boat / trailer is covered for UK towing.
