Has anyone any experience of the Origo 5100 Heat Pal? It's billed as heater or stove (£90 Compass).
Or where can we get a proper Tilly Lamp and how much heat would that give?
Like last year, we're taking our trailer sailer to the Broads at Easter and will probably leave it there and do several trips. Lovely but v cold. 24 footer, limited space, and in the summer we're going south.
Cheers

I really rate the Tilley lamp, cos it gives out a cheery light and a fair bit of heat, tho paraffin is quite expensive. I got one from Trade-It, as new, for about half the RRP. There is a specialist online retailer that does Tilley and spares but you will have to google for it.

The Origo Heatpal is expensive but it has the double advantage of being able to be used as a simple stove for heating a pan or putting a toast rack upon it; it also chucks out a fair amount of heat.

I don't like UK methylated spirit which this thing thrives on, so get the Continental product(on an awayday) and there is very little odour.

Downside? It gives no light

I used to use a Tilley on my Sadler 32. As paraffin became increasingly difficult to find, I bought a Coleman North Star lantern. It runs on non-leaded petrol and has automatic ignition - a great advantage as the lantern is quickly lit. Of course, there is no need to prime the lantern as there is with a Tilley.

The lantern gives out an excellent light and has kept my boat comfortably warm in Iceland, Norway and, currently, off the west coast of Scotland.

I have an old Gold tankTilley lamp and since the kids have grown up it's been left in the garage but now that I am looking at retirement and more time spent on theboat iam looking foreward to using it again.
They are noisey and I must admit I have had an oil lamp as a present from my kids years ago and that gives great light and some reasonable heat too.

Regards.

peter.

Thanks for all those useful replies. Looks like the lamps have it - I'll try to find out about the Coleman ... American it seems.
Sadlermike - is the Coleman actually warmer than the Tilley?

Well, I also rate the Tilly lamp, lovely soft light and soothing hiss. But.....lamps should be up and heaters down I found my Tilly good for warming my head but my feet were always frozen!!
Go for the tilly and one of those little camping gas things, bit expensive to run though.
