I’m thinking of building a small temporary cuddy for cockpit in my boat anyone suggest a barrier between my building material ( probably wood) and the coaming ,to prevent or lessen staining at the boundary between the two.
2nd. Has anyone seen pics or plans of what I’m trying to achieve for inspiration.

I have seen a couple of neat sprayhoods in ply with thin wood framing. They followed the basic design of a tube and fabric spray hood as the fabric/ply is easier to work if only curved in one plane. Not sure how the joints were made but stitch and epoxy tape should work.

I had a similar structure in GRP with foam cored frames and top across the front of the cockpit on my old 31ft Prout catamaran. Again the structure was basically sheets with a single curvature, other than a rounded edge around front and sides of the top. This had a flange that bolted through the deck and coamings on a bed of sealant. Windows were from acrylic or similar sheet, about 5 mm bedded and bolted to the GRP.

Much to my surprise I found this link with pics as she is currently for sale:

I wonder why more people don't build them, especially here in the UK. Some of the well known sailing Youtubers have done them & posted videos - here. Yankees call them dodgers...:)

Edit: In answer to your question, neoprene? Rubber strip made from old bicycle inner tube? Hold in place with rubber bonnet catches?

Conventional tube and canvas spray hoods / dodgers will bend and collapse under a good sized lump of water comming over the deck. I would suggest that a hard top type spray hood requires to be very securely mounted, preferably by through bolts with suitable backing. Something that size either partly or totally breaking loose could do a lot of damage to anyone in the cockpit or sheltering under it.
