Currently on special off from Maplin.

Solar 12v battery trickle charger. It won't suit everyones needs but some folk have found them useful for keeping a battery fully charged when left unattended for long periods. Safer than leaving a mains charger on, IMHO. Order code L90BC, £12.99 (was £19.99)

Digital multimeter. Who can afford not to be without one on the boat and one at home. Order code N19BW, £4.95 (was £9.99).

Hand held gas leak detector. Useful if you don't have any fixed detection system or a keen sense of smell. Order code N35AC, £14.99 (was £29.99)

Re: Small solar panels

I'm not sure a £12.99 panel will be any use except for a smal battery in the height of summer with good orientation.

(You ref: no seems incorrect BTW).

I have a couple of Maplins panels, one for each battery to keep them sweet over winter, 30W I think. I got one a couple of years ago, tried to get another but not on the web site and customer services didn't know what I was talking about.

The Sheffield branch had loads in stock however.

[/ QUOTE ] I said it will not suit every one needs but I reckon that it will keep a smallish battery topped up provided it can be mounted in a position to get good light for several hours at a time.

The number is L90BC at least that is what it says on the Special Offers leaflet that arrived in the post this week. I think thats the 1 watt one and the number will be for the special offer. They also do a 1.8watt one but that is not on special offer.

I have found that a 5watt panel is more than enough to keep a small leisure battery fully chaged during the summer. It doesn't work at all during the winter because the boat is covered and the battery is at home!

Re: Small solar panels

L90BC appears to be a mini de-humidifier. It is £12.99 though!

I would dearly love something inexpensive to help with keeping the battery topped up but have searched their website and can't find anything at this price/performance level.

Your are dead right the soalr panel is L58BF and is only £9.99. I must make an appointment at the opticians!!!!

I can't think what uses the mini dehumidifier could possibly have. A small almost competely airtight enclosed space I suppose
