Small Ships Register - Check Your Listing

Another shower of sh1t then.

Why am I not surprised?
Harsh, and TBH unnecessarily abusive, mate. It's a new system, things go awry. If you have never made a mistake you have never learned anything. And of course yotties are born with perfect docking capabilities aren't they? Not.

Just like this one perhaps?:
UK Ship Registry Super Service
I emailed them on late Friday and had a reply on the Saturday regarding SSR. Wasn't expecting that ! Have also found the website easy to use.

My main criticism of the government sites is that they aren't linked. I forgot about the SSR until they sent a letter to my old address about the certificate expiring.

I'm now wondering what else I forgot to change. I did have a sheet of A4 listing what I thought was everything to change but obviously not !

As Sandy says MMSI is issued by of ofcom and ssr by mcga.
It's strange that the ofcom licence is free whilst the ssr has to be paid (£35) for and that they are all done on line.
The free Ofcom licence may be because one of their directors, who I think was involved in setting up the MMSI systems, was a keen yachtsman.

Interesting.

My understanding was that the MMSI and call sign was issued by OFCOM.
That is correct and you also if you have them need to tregister your EPIRB and Personal locator beacons with the coastguard to link the safety system to your boat..

OK. I'm confused. My ssr certificate expired this May just gone. In June i tried to renew online but was directed to claim vessel even though I did the ssr reg 5 years ago. When I tried to claim the Vessel online it would not work. To their credit, when I called they answered quickly and sorted it out, e mailing me the new ssr docs promptly.

However, i have just checked and the UkSR site had no record of my boat. I'm guessing I have to link the boat with the uksr account so have claimed vessel again.

The main thing for me was to have the ssr certificate on file as part of ships papers needed to go abroad. But it would be good to know that all the data matches up so there is no confusion in an emergency situation.

Or did their political masters think it cheaper to outsource the software design and build? Probably to a good political donor.
Or possibly austerity measures have cut things to the bone and they just low paid, low morale folks muddling through as best they can? I have found a polite email generally gets things resolved fairly quickly.

Sounds like you will have to claim it by registering etc. Is the existing certificate valid or did they just send you the old one ?

WTF! My SSR registration has also disappeared. What a pile of crap our civil service is.
Well, mine is there with an expiry date in 2026. I'd be more likely to aim my ire at the political masters who decided this was a cash cow rather than the poor Civil Service who are understaffed and underpaid. In my experience the CS are helpful and understanding.

At £6 / year the licence is possibly good value compared with other countries not that I would tell the CS that !

The original in 1989 was encapsulated in a nice A6 ? size blue wallet. So far .... no one has asked to see any of the documents.
I'm slowly getting my head round google cloud storage and I starting to store boat documents there. Over the years a few original documents have been lost due to water damage, even those in so called waterproof cases so I'm left with poor copies.
I had several of those, but with 14 years of austerity there was no money to produce them and we are left with a PDF and printing them out ourselves.

Good quality paper helps. Polly pockets help a bit more and then into another water tight folder.
