I have just become the owner of my first boat, a 6m long Winkle Brig, I notice that she has an SSR number, is it mandatory that I inform the SSR of new ownership, I will also be changing her name once she has been restored.

Vaguely remember it being suggested before that the best/ easiest way forward is to notify the change of ownership then change the name later. That is if you want it on the SSR

For future ownership this is the preferable way to go. When I first bought my current boat its ownership trail was vague but I was able to trace previous owners through the SSR office, despite several name changes.

Apologies for thread drift. I note you mention you are about to restore your boat. A good friend of mine has a superb example of a Winkle Brig. If you want, send me a PM & I could put you in touch with him.

The SSR is only a requirement if you take her foriegn.
The SSR doesnt have sufficient info (apart from her name ) to even identify a vessel.
referb her change her name & IF you need SSR then apply, no history is required on application
