I recently acquired a Pandora International in pretty good condition, though her sails are very sad and will be changed very shortly (seriously, the main has holes in it). She also sports what I assume are the original winches as the handle is on the base of the winch and doesn't detach.
The existing winches have a base diameter of about 10cm, and use a central bolt through a wooden pad. The "ring" on the coaming is about 12cm in diameter (at most, it's probably closer to 11.5), and is moulded into the coaming. From all of my research to date, this seems to preclude the installation of any modern self-tailing winch, as the base sizes all seem to start around the total diameter of the area the base could go.
I've currently got some Lewmar #6s lined up, as they're a 94mm base with 4 bolts on a 66mm diameter circle. However, they're not ST, and as I'm going to be single-handing, ST would be useful (and more useful when I take non-sailors out with me). Am I completely out of luck on getting a winch in the 100 - 110mm base diameter range that has ST?
