Am I the only one doubting the wisdom of putting any significant sideways force on stanchions?

No you're not. Looks like an easy way to bend the stanchions to me unless they are tied in at the top to something on the coach roof.

No this is not about propellers !

The 'Title' is the nearest I can get to explaining what I am after.

I am putting in 2 new side windows and using '3M VHB' tape to bed them in ...

...BUT I will have to lay a plank, up ended on its side edge against the stanchion posts and use (here we go again) Small Horizontal Acrow Props to put pressure on the windows (suitably protected with rags or something).

However, where can I get something like Acrows that close to at least 50cm and expand up to 1.5 m s ?

I would just use 2 pieces of wood and 2 G clamps to make up a stick just a bit longer than the gap and wedge it in place.

simple and cheap as chips.

A length of 12 mm studding with a wooden block & a washer one end as a pad & a nut with a bent bit of steel in the shape of a "U" to hook the staunchion the other end. Nice & light & fine adjustment by just turning the nut so that the "U" slides along the studding pushing against the staunchion
