Hi, Not sure if this has been talked about so forgive me if im repeating something.
There is a bout of crime on the Thames at the moment particularly around the Shepperton-Sunbury stretch. Basically these people are steeling RIBS/aluminium boats/dinghies etc and locks are not deterring them just slowing them down. They are then hiding the boats after removing the serial numbers and collecting them later.
I had my RIB stolen Sat 3rd May, cut through a massive dinghy lock and rope with some kind of heat tool. After reporting it to the police and spreading word around the locks it was fortunately found in the week with not too much damage. It was found hidden in trees. I know of at least 2 other boats in my road that have been stolen in the last week.
We've been told to look out for a white transit van and black golf with tinted windows and report regestrations if seen together. If anyone see's anything suspicious you can contact Jim Halstead on 01276 454900.
I am angry firstly that these people have the nerve to steel someone else's peoperty but also they came onto our land whilst we were sleeping and it has completely unnerved us.
The way they cut through the locks they're professional so best to advice the police if you spot anything than get involved.
