Small boat, long distance...

The Berque brothers have made some enterprising crossings in small boats they built themselves, including a crossing with no instruments, charts, compass, log, watches, books - nothing.

They pitched up in Barbados, and I saw their boat ashore at the haul out yard here :

I love the fishing rod holder! Not too sure that the electronic display unit behind it is in a very sensible location though.

There have been lots of other crazy Atlantic voyages in small cats - http://sail.ie/misc/cats_atlantic.htm

I remember reading in Cruising World about the two French lads who crossed in the Hobie 18, at the same time that we crossed in a heavy 44' sailing yacht, and we thought we had rough weather in the Atlantic then.......

Re Seiko and his little 2 hp motor boat, like Tradewinds we also met him here after he arrived - I am amazed that he could still muster the enthusiasm t4o carry on. It certainly wasn't much fun (especially knowing that he was sitting on that huge petrol tank), and he didn't dare to cook anything on the trip across.
