Slump -- what slump

"A skilled craftsman gets £10/"12 an hour for a 40 hour week."

Where I live they don't get that much! just over £8 an hour for a skilled joiner! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Because jobs are in short supply employers don't give a toss! I did hear from one employer that they set the wages amongst themselves so they wouldn't have to compete for tradesmen.

Would'nt surprise me in the slightest chrusty & if they started earning more the employers would scream "skills shortage" & the Government would import more foreigners.

Cycle trade is doing well as people realise that it is better & cheaper than a car for short journeys.

Sprayhood & cover makers seem to be doing well too. I invited 6 to quote for a full cockpit cover. 2 had retired, 2 couldn't start for 6-8 weeks (It'll be bloody winter again by then!) one has gievn me a quote & the other may call in tonight or tomorrow morning as he "is going to the Rugby". still, I suppose 1 out of 6 is about the same as with builders!

Do you think its fair to ask 6 people to quote on a job? particularly one that need a visit and a measure up to quote properly?

Anyway, can you quote me for the supply of a second hand good condition Brompton please
